ARTZ 271: Relief / WEEKLY SCHEDULE Spring 2024
WK 1/
Jan 22- Introduction to the course, materials. Introduce Project 1- Anachronism.
Jan 24- Overview of Printmaking, Discussion on tools. Demo: Basics of Relief. Hand out lino blocks.
WK 2/
Jan 29- Start transferring images/cutting blocks. (Borrow tools if needed)
Jan 31- Discussion on Papers (hand out paper) and cutting session. Have block finished by next Wednesday.
WK 3/
Feb 5- Tear down papers/have block finished for Wednesday.
Feb 7- Demo on Printing and in-class printing session on first project.
WK 4/
Feb 12- Critique of Project 1 / Anachronism.
Feb 14- Curating Prints & Intro Project 2: Woodcut (demo: hand-coloring/dyeing paper & Wire brush to bring up woodgrain & exacto/chisel techniques).
WK 5/
Feb 19- Presidents Day Holiday / No Classes
Feb 21- Visit from Crystal McCallie/Woodcuts & print session afterwards.
WK 6/
Feb 26- Review prints by Huck/RGZ/Krawsowski / Demo: Chine colle print on kozo to Arnhem.(rice paste & mylar)
Feb 28- Review Matrix prints & cutting session on project 2.
WK 7/
Mar 4- Visiting Artist / Max Mahn & Print Session
Mar 6- Visiting Artist / Max Mahn & Print Session
WK 8/
Mar 11- Critique Project 2/Woodcut
Mar 13- Continue Critique & Introduce Project 3: Indept project. (Blocks must be cut by April 1 for in-class monotyping session).
WK 9/
Mar 18- SPRING BREAK / No Classes
Mar 20- SPRING BREAK / No Classes
WK 10/
Mar 25- Introduce project 4: Block-Party, Handout MDF. & cutting session.
Mar 27- Introduce Final Project / ZACC Printfest Portfolio / Show & discuss color relief (reduction/multi-block etc)-Adv relief next semester. Cutting Session
WK 11/
Apr 1- In class monotype printing on Project 3. Everyone must have their block cut in advance. (Save ink) Demo:blend roll/monotyping
Apr 3- Show Fritz Eichenberg prints.
WK 12/
Apr 8- Documenting Artwork
Apr 10 - Print Session
WK 13/
Apr 15- Critique Project 3- Independent Project
Apr 17- Block-Party in class printing session (and one composite print too for shop)
WK 14/
Apr 22- Print Session

Apr 27-SATURDAY- The Print Studio will be unavailable for use from 8:00 am till 1:00 pm for MAI Workshops. You can get back in at 1:00 pm.
WK 15/
Apr 29- Print Session
May 1- ZACC Printfest Portfolio due / Mandatory Class Clean up.Return all materials, cutting tools registration pins.
The Print Studio will be closed to printing after our clean up.
WK 16/
Finals Week- We will not be meeting, use this time to clear out your flat files, lockers and any prints left in the drying racks and remove your screens.
All lockers & flat files must be cleaned out no later than Sunday May 12th. The print studio will be locked starting Monday. All items left behind will be tossed.
