ARTZ 494: Professional Practices / WEEKLY SCHEDULE   Fall 2022


Tentative SEMESTER SCHEDULE: FALL 2022
As I will be scheduling several visiting guest speakers throughout the semester, the schedule may change due to the guests availability.

WK 1/
Aug 29- Introduction to the course, discussion of BFA spaces/mentorships. For Wed/bring one piece of your art to discuss and an example of another artists statement you like (HARDCOPY)
Aug 31- Questionnaires due.  Discussion / Artists Statements, for Wednesday bring your current artist cv/resume and biographical statement.
(All in HARDCOPY)

WK 2/
Sept 5- Labor Day Holiday- No Classes
Sept 7- Amy Ratto-Parks from the UM Writing Center will visit.  Artist Statements, Biographical statements & CV due. Review in class. Plus signed BFA mentor forms.

WK 3/
Sept 12- Photographing Artwork / Guest: Matt Hamon;  2 images.-Due Oct 10th
Sept 14- Graduate School / Guests: Visiting Graduate Students (Crystal, Megan & Dagny)

WK 4/
Sept 19- Getting Yourself Out There / Exhibitions (Assignment: Apply to 2 juried exhibitions-see projects page for details)
Sept 21- Guest Visit by Brandon Reintjes- Senior Curator & John Calsbeek-Associate curator @ MAM

WK 5/
Sept 26- Approaching Galleries/Museums (Assignment: Research gallery/museum and write a concept statement- See projects page for details)
Sept 28- Photographing Artwork / Jim's Version 

WK 6/
Oct 3- Framing/Presentation & Hanging
Oct 5- Getting it There (Packing/Crating/Shipping) - 2 jpegs due on Monday.

WK 7/
Oct 10- Introduce Final Artist Talk / PPT: Good, Bad & the Ugly & Sign up for lecture time. (2 jpeg images due of your work-properly labeled).
Oct 12- Making A Living / Budgets,studio, equipment.-Budget/studio assignment due: Oct 24

WK 8/
Oct 17- No Class_Ka'ila Farrell-Smith Visiting Artist will be working in Printmaking Studio 
Oct 19- Ka'ila Farrell-Smith Visiting Artist / Meet in Printmaking Studio (FA 403)

WK 9/
Oct 24- Studio/budgets/materials project due/discussion & 2nd Draft of CV, Artist Statements, Biographical statements due.
Oct 26- Discussion on Artists Residencies & Discuss galleries students selected, bring printouts and websites & Concept Statements due.

Oct 31- 
Starting a Non-Profit / Guest: Stephanie Dishno on LLC's-Wildfire Ceramics Studio
Nov 2- Galleries/Workshops/Online courses / Guest: Pamela Caughey

WK 11/
Nov 7- Artist Residencies / Guest: Stella Nall
Nov 9- Business Side of Art / Guest: Max Mahn 

WK 12/
Nov 14- ARTZ 499 & BFA Exhibition Guests: Cathryn Mallory & Past BFA's Wyatt, Madeline & Max
Nov 16- Artist Talks by Crystal, Megan & Dagny.

WK 13/
Nov 21- Lecture Posters Due / bring presentation to class on jump drive, work session
Nov 23- Travel Day for Thanksgiving / No Classes

Nov 28- Artist Talks Round 1 (MAX & WALTER)
Nov 30- Artist Talks Round 2 (MADELINE, CLAIRE & MARI)


WK 15/
Dec 5- Artist Talks Round 3 (ANDY, HUNTER & WYATT) & Residency Packets due
Dec 7- Artist Talks Round 4 (KEILANI & IVY)  & Final Deadline for Juried Exhibition packets. Final CV, Artist Statements, Biographical Statements due.

WK 16/
Dec 12-16- Finals Week / Clean out flat files, lockers and all other items before Monday, noon Dec. 19th.
