Professional Practices Projects Fall 2024
Part of this course is to instill in all of you the realization of the role and importance that deadlines and following directions will have on your future careers as artists. Therefore, writing assignments and projects not meeting stated formats and guidelines will simply not be accepted. Late work will be docked and in some cases not accepted. Emailed assignments will not be accepted, hardcopy only unless otherwise stated.
GUIDELINES FOR WRITING ASSIGNMENTS:
All writing assignments handed in MUST be TYPED and submitted as HARDCOPY (unless otherwise requested).
It must include your full name and document title TYPED at the top: for example Kiki Smith / Artist Statement and be handed in ON TIME.
Assignments handed in on time correctly will be reviewed and given feedback. I will not accept work that doesn't conform to the requirements of each assignment and will not accept any documents that don't include your name, title of the document or documents that contain hand written information on them. Assignments that don't follow the guidelines or are handed in after the deadline will be considered late. All late work will receive an automatic C; and will not be provided feedback/corrections.
PowerPoints & lectures presented in class and will NOT be posted online. You are expected to take notes in class and if you miss a class confer with one of your peers to get the information you missed.

Apply to 2 Juried Exhibitions (2) / You can submit your information as soon as you apply for the exhibition.
Apply to 2 juried exhibitions this semester. 1- One will be the Annual Juried Student exhibition at the Gallery of Visual Arts. 2- The second one, is a exhibition you will research and actually apply for. (It cannot be in Montana-you are casting a wider net, and getting out of your comfort zone.) You will submit the following in HARDCOPY. -Pdf of the exhibition you applied to. -Pdf confirmation of your submission. (can print off the email or screen shot) -Brief statement as to why you selected this particular exhibition. |

Part 1: Research 2 galleries (Not in Montana) you think your work would fit into.
Print out Home page of each gallery and be ready to discuss why you think your work would fit well. (printout must contain web address of gallery)
Part 2: Write a cover letter to one of the galleries. And also write a press release for a show of your work at that gallery.
