Multi-Block / Chiaroscuro Project / CMYK

Multi-block was the traditional Japanese method (Mokuhanga), that was highly developed during the edo period.
Chiaroscuro Prints came later and were the European counterpart to the Japanese method.


Project parameters:
  • Image size: Minimum of 8"x 10" on either wood or linoleum, with a minimum of 1" clean borders. 
  • Edition size 6 high quality prints; (you will do 2 color variations- 3 prints of each variation for a total of 6 finished clean prints.)
  • You can do a traditional chiaroscuro print or a multi-block.

Transferring an image from block to block. (the sample below is a chiaroscuro print)
It is recommended you use Mylar (which doesn't stretch), Acetate sheets can stretch a bit.
