Project Parameters:

PART I:
Master Study with Anachronism.

  • You will copy the entire drawing as accurately as you can.  Using the same media as the original drawing. (ex. if Van Gogh used charcoal, so will you & you will add an anachronism to it. (See below)
  • Use your Sketchbook. Drawing should be approx. 8"x10" (Do NOT use copier/printer paper!!)
  • You will also add/change some element in the original to create an anachronism.
  • An anachronism is a chronological inconsistency in some arrangement, especially a juxtaposition of persons, events, objects, or customs from different periods.  (Think: Starbucks coffee cup in GOT)
  • For the critique: Bring in your finished master study & a printout of the original.  Or email me a picture of your original at least an hour before class at: James[email protected]

Part II:
Master Study with Skeletal Overlay
(YOU WILL NOT START THIS TILL AFTER THE CRITIQUE FOR THE ABOVE DRAWING.)

  • Using a transparent sheet of mylar. (you can purchase from me (.50) or UC bookstore)
  • You will tape the mylar over your master drawing.
  • You will then draw the skeleton on the mylar using graphite, positioning it to match your figure drawing.
  • You will be approximating the location of the skeleton as best you can.  If your figure is more abstract/distorted, then so your skeleton will be also.
