WK 1/
Jan 19- Introduction to the course, materials. Short drawing exercises.
WK 2/
Jan 24- Mark making/gesture. Bring an organic shaped object to next class.
Jan 26- Working with Line, Hmwk: Draw 3 versions of your hand on 18x24 paper-due Monday. (1-Cross contour; 1-Regular contour; 1-With modeling.)
WK 3/
Jan 31-Review homework, Positive/Negative space. (Hand out Newsprint Pads)
Feb 2- Developing Space; Hmwk: Brief write up about either Musso or Ambrose-Smith exhibition at MAM (due 2/28).
WK 4/
Feb 7- Various forms of Perspective
Feb 9- Working with perspective,Room drawings/Turn in Drawing at end of class. Hmwk: Something Unexpected: Due Monday.
WK 5/
Feb 14-Critique of Something Unexpected. Value Scales, Cast light
Feb 16- Facial Proportions & working with value. Hmwk: Distorted Self Portrait. (due 2/23)
WK 6/
Feb 21- President's Day Holiday- No Classes
Feb 23- Review homework, Toned Drawings) MAM assignment due also. & Bring small object for Monday.

Feb 28- Start Small/Big drawings. (Due 3/7)
Mar 2- Visiting Artist Marwin Begaye talks to class. (Meet in Printmaking studio FA 403- next door)
WK 8/
Mar 7-
Mar 9- Review Facial Proportions, Hmwk: Simulated woodcut self portrait. (due 3/28), work with white pencil technique.Work on White line self portraits.
In class work with white pencil technique.
WK 9/
Mar 14- Work on Erasure technique drawings.
Mar 16-Work on Erasure technique drawings with Jason Clark. (Turn in best drawing from past two days on Monday, March 28th.)
WK 10/
Mar 21- SPRING BREAK
Mar 23- SPRING BREAK
WK 11/
Mar 28- White Pencil Self portraits due-critique. Introduction to Cliche' project (select words)- Have sketch for Wednesday. (Link to Cliche' project)
Mar 30- Bring sketch for cliche' drawing, work session in class. (I am in the process of re-organizing the next few weeks and will have it up before Monday the 4th).
WK 12/
Apr 4- Introduce Transformation Project. (In progress review on April 11th or -5 points). Final version due on April 18th for critique.
Begin Mixed Media drawings of still life for collage project.
Apr 6- Cliche' Project due/Critique & Introduce and start work on collage projects. (Take reference photo).
WK 13/
Apr 11- In class review of transformation project. (You must have at least one panel completed or -5 points), & continue work on collage projects.
Apr 13- Meet in 403 (Printmaking Studio) Visiting Artist Corwin Clairmont. Then return to 401 to work on Transformation or Collage projects for remainder of class.
WK 14/
Apr 18- Transformation project due/critique. Introduce Final Project (Chimera/Esquiste Corpse)-Bring print outs for next Monday (April 25)
Apr 20- Collage Project Due/Critique. Visit print studio to learn about printmaking.
WK 15/
Apr 25- Bring in print outs for Final project. Begin with putting collages together, then begin working on final project.
This is both your in-class project and your homework for the next week and a half. You will likely not be able to complete the project only using in-class time.
Apr 27- Optional work session on Final project: Jason Clark will be on hand to help, (Jim has to attend NASAD Accreditation meeting).
WK 16/
May 2- work session on final project/due Wednesday.
May 4-Final Critiques (Chimera/Exquisite Corpse project due)- and last day to hand in late or re-worked projects.
WK 17/
Finals Week
We will not be meeting during finals week. Use this time to clean out your flat file and other projects. All items left after noon on Monday following finals will be tossed.
