Anachronism
An anachronism (from the Greek ἀνά ana, "against" and χρόνος khronos, "time") is a chronological inconsistency in some arrangement, especially a juxtaposition of persons, events, objects, or customs from different periods of time. The most common type of anachronism is an object misplaced in time, but it may be a verbal expression, a technology, a philosophical idea, a person, a musical style, a material, a plant or animal, a custom or anything else associated with a particular period in time so that it is incorrect to place it outside its proper temporal domain. An anachronism can be something modern in an older period or something old in a contemporary period.
An anachronism may be either intentional or unintentional. Intentional anachronisms may be introduced into a literary or artistic work to help a contemporary audience engage more readily with a historical period. Anachronism can also be used for purposes of rhetoric, comedy, or shock. Unintentional anachronisms may occur when a writer, artist, or performer is unaware of differences in technology, language, customs, attitudes, or fashions between different historical eras. << The Starbucks coffee cup in this scene from Game of Thrones is a classic example of an unintended anachronism.

Select a relief print (woodcut or linocut) –IT MUST BE AN ACTUAL RELIEF PRINT- and CANNOT be a drawing, photograph or other printmaking process: ex. Lithograph, etching etc.
To get some names you can go to: www.printana.org then click on “Artists” and then “Relief”

You are to copy the image as closely as possible, mimicking the size and types of marks.

You will alter some aspect of the print by adding a new component or “updating” some aspect of the image. (This is the Anachronism part).

You will also include a typed statement that includes the following:
The Artist, title and date of the original work. A brief 200 word typed statement about how you altered the piece.
PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS:

- Relief Print: Lino or Wood based on what the original is. (If the original is a woodcut, you’ll use wood.)
- Minimum size: one side must be at least 8” long.
- Edition of 5. (one print will be retained for the Print Archives).
- Typed Statement to include: Title, artist & date of original work and 200-word statement about your alteration.
- Deadline: Sept. 11
