Relief Materials List /Spring 2021

​Your lab fee covers:
Your lab fee covers colored inks, ink additives (setswell, plate oils, transparent base, etc), rag service, newsprint, rollers, brayers, oils, simple green and various printing equipment and materials in the studio. Since printmaking involves multiples, typically larger amounts of materials are consumed than for a drawing course. Every effort is made to keep your costs at a minimum, but you should still expect to pay at least as much as you would for textbooks and materials in an academic course for these additional supplies, and perhaps more.

List of Required Materials:
Some of these materials you will be able to purchase at the UC Bookstore, others you can purchase through the Print Studio and others you may choose to order online.  I have listed the prices for many of the items below for comparison.

Stay away from the temptation to buy cheap sets that look like this.

They offer a lot of tools for a small price. 
But the blades are worthless and you'd be better off hiring a beaver to gnaw your image for you.

Speedball Linoleum Cutter

If your really on a budget you can think about this set. ($10.21 from Blick)

These tools you have to keep changing the tip to use, and dull more easily.  
They don't really resharpen very well, so you might buy a few extra tips.

For fine detail I recommend the "No. 1 Small V" is good.

The Arnhem 1618 is a great western styled paper.
