Your lab fee covers:
Your lab fee covers various printing inks, ink additives (setswell, plate oils, transparent base, etc), rag service, newsprint, rollers, brayers, oils, simple green and various printing equipment and materials in the studio. Every effort is made to keep your costs at a minimum, but you should still expect to pay at least as much as you would for textbooks and materials in an academic course for these additional supplies, and perhaps more. Each student will receive the following items as well:
Print Studio:
Buying materials through the print studio is purely optional and is intended for your convenience & cost saving. Items sold through the print studio include shipping & account fee's. These items may be purchased during class, so you will need to plan ahead! Not being able to get ahold of me to purchase supplies is NOT a reason to not have work done on time.

- 1 roll of blue painters tape (1")
- 11"x14" Clear .005 duralar sheet
- 1 Sharpie marker
- 1 8"x10" linoleum block
- 1 8"x10" Shina Plywood block
- 3 Sheets of Arnhem 1618 paper
- 3 Sheets of Thai Kozo paper
Print Studio:

Power Grip Carving ToolsThese tools are commonly just called Power Grip.
But are also listed as Mikisyo Power Grip Carving Tools Shinwa Carving tools and other names. I have a set you can check out for use during the first 5 weeks of class. I take a $30 deposit which will be returned to you when you turn them back in. Carving sets checked out will be collected during the 4th week of class, so make sure you order your own set early on. Stay away from the temptation to buy cheap sets that look like this.
They offer a lot of tools for a small price. But the blades are worthless and you'd be better off hiring a beaver to gnaw your image for you. |

Speedball Linoleum CutterIf your really on a budget you can think about this set. ($10.21 from Blick)
These tools you have to keep changing the tip to use, and dull more easily. They don't really resharpen very well, so you might buy a few extra tips. Available locally at Frame of Mind. For fine detail I recommend the "No. 1 Small V" is good. LINK TO BLICK ART MATERIALS |
PRINTMAKING PAPER /
When buying paper online, it often lists a GSM. (Grams per Square Meter)
What does ‘GSM’ mean? The term ‘GSM’ simply stands for ‘Grams per Square Meter and is used for measuring paper weight. Put simply, if you were to take a 1m² piece of a certain type of paper, how much would it weigh in grams? Paper is also given an approx weight in lbs. (In US)
So the higher the number, the thicker the paper. For example Arnhem 1618 comes in two weights, either 245 gsm (90 lb) or 320 gsm (120 lb) By comparison Thai Kozo is 35 gsm.
